    Promoting Fundamental British Values

    In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

    British Values are taught across the curriculum and through our comprehensive PSHE scheme (see below).

    DfE - Definitions of British Values

    Democracy -

    A culture built upon freedom and equality, where everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities.

    • The right to protest and petition
    • Receiving and giving feedback

    The Rule of Law -

    The need for rules to make a happy, safe and secure environment to live and work.

    Individual Liberty -

    Protection of your rights and the right of others you work with.

    Respect & Tolerance -

    Understanding that we all don’t share the same beliefs and values. Respecting the values, ideas and beliefs of others whilst not imposing our own others.

    • The importance of religion, traditions, cultural heritage and preferences
    • Tackling stereotyping, labelling, prejudice and discrimination

    EGA Ethos

    Our ethos is characterised by a culture of positive attitude, high expectation and aspiration. These are related to the whole learning community, pupils and staff.

    • We believe British Values are effectively promoted in our school through our Learning Behaviours.
    • Eldon Grove Academy understands that there are many different types of community in modern Britain.
    • Eldon Grove Academy is a mono-cultural school, in a seaside and port town in the North East of England.
